Context and Research
Every project begins with the site: its ground, its climate, its history and its neighbours.
We spend the first weeks walking, measuring and listening. Topographic surveys, solar studies and interviews with the people who will use the building become the raw material for everything that follows. Nothing is drawn until we understand what is already there.
Concept and Vision
A single, clear idea that every later decision can be tested against.
The concept is developed through models rather than images: dozens of quick studies in card, plaster and wood. We present two or three directions to the client, each with its own logic, and choose one together.
Design Development
The idea becomes a building: structure, plan, section and detail.
Structural and environmental engineers join the team. Every room is tested in section and at full scale where it matters. Planning documentation is prepared and submitted, and costs are reviewed at each step.
Material and Technical Coordination
Samples, mock-ups and drawings at the scale of a hand.
We build full-size mock-ups of key walls, windows and junctions on site, and review them in different light. The technical drawings are coordinated with every consultant and contractor before tender.
Realisation
On site, every week, until the last detail is complete.
A project architect from the studio is present on site throughout construction. We resolve questions as they arise, review every sample and inspect every pour. At handover we provide a manual explaining how the building should be maintained — and how it is designed to age.
